You have been invited to attend an interview for a place studying a course in a college. Unfortunately, because of a previous appointment, you cannot come at the time they wish. Write a letter to the admissions tutor: •explain your position •apologies and offer to come on another day or later the same day. •ask how long the interview will be and whether there will be any tests during it. You do NOT need to write your own address. You should write at least 150 words.

Dear Sir or Madam, I am writing to apologise for my absence from your
interview
this
Monday morning.
To begin
with, let me explain the reason why I can not attend your
interview
since I have to take my mother for an important health check-up.
Due to
waiting for her results, the doctor's diagnosis took much more time than I expected. I deeply regret not to attend your
interview
. Could you please arrange another
interview
on Thursday morning or later that suit your schedule?
Furthermore
, could you let me know how long the
interview
takes and any tests during it? I would be grateful if you provide
this
information. Yours faithfully, Emily

Word Count

IELTS says that you should write a minimum of 150 words in writing task 1. If you go under word count you will lose marks in task response.

A very long letter will not give you a higher band score.

Aim for between 160 to 190 words in writing task 1. This will ensure a concise letter and will be realistic in terms of time management. You have only 20 minutes to write the letter and you need around 5 minutes of planning time, so you will not be able to write a long letter in 15 minutes.
