The diagram provides information about the salient stages in the life span of the Monarch butterfly. Looking from an
overall
perspective, it is readily apparent that there are four main phases in
this
cyclic natural process, beginning with the egg stage and culminating in adulthood. Moving to a more detailed analysis, first of all, the butterfly eggs wait on milkweed for 14 days until the larval level begins.
Next,
the larva hatches and turns to the caterpillar on the same leave, before attaching to it. In the next two phases of
this
cycle, the caterpillar starts to feed with the leaves and creates a chrysalis as protection for itself.
Subsequently
, after staying for 10 days in the chrysalis, an adult butterfly emerges and migrates to the southern hemisphere during the first 6 months of its life.
Consequently
, a mature individual's migration occurs ,and
then
, it looks for a mate to lay eggs. The
last
step of the process involves mating and egg-laying.
