The table and charts below give information on the police budget for 2017 and 2018 in one area of Britain. The table shows where the money came from and the chars show how it was distributed.
The data depicts how the police in one area of the UK manage their
budget
, by describing the
sources
of income and categories of expenses in 2017 and 2018.
Overall
, the police
budget
had increased during the period. Even though the general trend of the expenses remained the same, the priorities were changed slightly. Regarding the
sources
, the main income came from the national government, which contributed around 50%, followed by local taxes and other
sources
with contributions of 40% and 10% respectively. Local taxes’ part increased by 10% (from 91.2M to 102.3M), driven by the main
increase
in the total
budget
,
while
other
sources
remained relatively stable from 2017 to 2018, growing by around 1% only. By examining the money that was spent in both years the main category remained salaries for the employees,
such
as officers and staff. In 2017 the aforementioned category accounted for two-thirds of the total
budget
, followed by building and transportation expenses (17%) and the rest was spent on technology (8%). In 2018 the investments in technology increased to 14% at the expense of salaries, which
due to
the total
budget
increase
kept almost flat in absolute terms,
however
presented only 69% per cent. The building and transportation share in both years was constant, 17%, meaning that the
increase
in spending from absolute numbers was affected by the total
budget
increase
.
