while
the pie chart demonstrates the differences in gender of those students in 2001 and 2010. In general, people inclined to attend universities to become researchers in Australia between 2001 and 2010. Notably, local learners always outnumbered their counterparts who came from other countries.
In addition
, the majority of research academics were local males. As can be seen from the table graph, about 34,000 Australian postgraduates pursued investigation fields in 2001,
whereas
the figure for international academics was over 5,000. In the following nine years,
although
the number of global learners almost tripled, it was still lower than the figure for resident students, at about 40,000. Regarding gender, in 2001, the percentages of Australian male and female academics were relatively equal, at 44% and 43%, respectively. Meanwhile, the number of international postgraduates was significantly lower, with only 9% male and 4% female. In 2010, the figure for local males decreased somewhat to 38%, compared to 35% for local females.
Conversely
, the proportions of international postgraduates increased slightly, with 12% male and 15% female.
