✨ Do you want to improve your IELTS writing?
Dear Ms.Stone I am writing
this
letter to request some periods of time off from work. I am expecting to be away for at least three days. I have my upcoming IELTS exam for the date July 23rd. As the date nears.I am feeling overwhelmed by varieties of content to be covered until the due date. So I want more time to cover all of the necessary content without worrying much. I am requesting the days off from 19th July to 22nd July and that week my shift will be opening. So it will be easier to find my replacement for those periods of time. To make it more convenient, yesterday I kept in touch with one of the supply directors who can provide us with the replacement. The supply director later emailed me that she had found one supply staff who could cover my shift and is willing to start from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm. I hope to hear back from you soon with the positive response. Thank you. Yours sincerely Sandhya Thapa Magar

task achievement
Consider providing a brief rationale for why this leaves your department in a good position for a temporary replacement and a bit more about your own role to add depth to the explanation.
coherence and cohesion
Ensure your letter has distinct sections for each key point to improve clarity. For example, separating the reason for leave, the duration, and the covering arrangements into distinct paragraphs.
suitable writing tone
The tone of the letter is polite and professional, appropriate for communication with an employer.
greeting and closing
The letter has a clear closing and a professional signature, which is well-done.

Structure your letter

A letter needs to be written using a proper format, including the following:

  • A greeting (Dear sir/madam, Dear John, Dear Mr. Smith)
  • The main body (consisting of paragraphs for each part of the letter)
  • A closing (Yours sincerely, Yours faithfully, Best wishes, Kind regards, Love)

When writing a letter as part of the IELTS General Training Writing Task 1, it is important to include the bullet points presented to you in the question.

All three bullet points need to be presented. And remember that some bullet points contain more than one element. So, make sure to watch for ‘and’ and plurals.
