The bar charts illustrate the proportion of households who owned or rented a residence in the country of England and Wales between 1918 and 2011.
Overall
, it can be seen that the number of houses rented reduced over time in 98 years,
while
the number of households who bought their accommodation rose over time till the end of a given period.
To begin
with, people who live in their own residence, starting from just above 20% in 1918
then
rose to 50% in 1971.
Additionally
, it continued to rise significantly till a peak at below 70% in 2001.

, there has dropped to 63% in 2011. In comparison, at the beginning of the given period, households had the highest total rented houses accounting for 76%, inversely related to permanent houses.
