The diagram below demonstrates how the public library has changed compared to its floor plan 20 years ago.
Overall
, there have been dramatic changes to the central library, with the addition of many new facilities.
To begin
with, 20 years ago, in the middle of the building was a set of tables and chairs, with the “Adult books” category on the left and “Adult non-fiction books” on the other side. The entrance was located at the centre of the south side, and next to it was a reading area for newspapers and magazines
as well as
an enquiry desk. On the top left corner used to be an area for CDs, videos and computer games.
Lastly
, there was a children’s book section in the far
right
corner of the building.
In contrast
, now there is a computer room in place of the reading area and in the bottom
right
corner is the café. The entrance has remained in the same place, but the table and chairs are no longer there. The adult fiction section has moved to the
right
of the library, with the information desk and self-service machines beneath it. The new “All reference books” group is on the middle
right
, and above it is the renovated “Children’s fiction books” place. Storytelling events often happen there, and there are two sofas to provide more comfort for the children.
Last
but not least, there is a lecture room on the top
right
, allowing easy access to adult fiction books.
