The first chart below shows how energy is used in an average Australian household. The second

chart shows the greenhouse gas emissions which result from this energy use.
The first graph depicts the
energy
use of an ordinary Australian household,
while
the second graph illustrates the amount of greenhouse gas
emissions
produced.
Overall
, a significant proportion of
energy
usage is allocated to heating and
water
heating,
while
the main sources of greenhouse
emissions
result from
water
heating and other appliances. Meanwhile, cooling and lighting account for the smallest proportions in both categories.
According to
the first chart, the largest proportion of
energy
consumption is devoted to heating (42%), followed by
water
heating at one-third. Other appliances and refrigeration make up 15% and 7% of
energy
consumption, respectively.
Additionally
, lighting consumes 4%, which is twice as high as the percentage of
energy
used for refrigeration. The second graph shows that
water
heating is a major source of greenhouse gas
emissions
, accounting for just above 30%,
while
the contribution from lighting is lower by a staggering margin of 24%. The second source of
emissions
comes from other appliances (28%), which is double the emission from refrigeration.
In addition
, heating is responsible for 15% of total
emissions
, which is three times the contribution of cooling.
