In many
countries
, the
government
prioritises economic growth
above all
other concerns.The advantages of
this
are the improvement of people’s salaries and the revenue of the
government
, and the disadvantages are that environmental issues are underestimated and that there should be trouble in foreign affairs.
One
advantage of prioritising the economic growth of the
country
is making everyone rich.
That is
because if a certain area of
one
country
’s industry becomes successful, people’s wages and companies’ income improve, and
this
leads to the advancement of the
overall
economy
. The second advantage is an increase in the revenue of the
government
. The
governments
put more money on social insurance and education if the
economy
grows because most
governments
impose people and companies a lot of tax depending on the amount of their incomes and profits.
For instance
, as the
economy
improves, Japanese society has become the safest
country
in the world because the increased income of the
government
allowed the Japanese
government
to establish a comprehensive healthcare/welfare system for everyone, which decreased the number of crimes by outcasted people.
On the other hand
,
one
disadvantage of putting the most importance on improving the
economy
of a
country
is that environmental issues are underestimated.
This
is sometimes detrimental because some industries
such
as fishery and agriculture can be directly affected by climate changes and pollution, which are the most important basic industries for all citizens. The second disadvantage is producing concerns in foreign affairs. If
one
country
focuses on its own economic growth too much, some economically weak
countries
are
further
exploited and
this
causes disputes among the
countries
and, in the worst case, wars.
For example
, when Japanese car companies flourished in the 1990s, a lot of American car factories went bankrupt and there were a lot of riots in Detroit city, which forced the
governments
of both
countries
to negotiate economic sanctions even though they were economically allied nations. In conclusion,
although
the
governments
in most
countries
put the priority on improving the
economy
to make people wealthier and to increase the tax income of the
governments
, there are disadvantages
such
as underestimation of environmental issues causing damages to fishery and agriculture and concerns of economic frictions with neighbour
countries
.
