The two charts compare the design of the Central Library 20 years ago with its current layout. The library is divided into six
sections
, the same number of
sections
as it used to have.
However
, some
sections
are expanded or modified and the functionalities of these
sections
are totally different from what they once were. It is noticeable that the two round tables and chairs surrounding them were removed from the centre of the whole building. The shelves for adult fiction and non-fiction books used to take up the left wing and the right wing, respectively.
However
, fiction books are moved to the right wing accompanied by a new information desk and three self-service machines. The northwest room was expanded in width and now it serves as a comprehensive recreation site for children rather than storing CDs, videos and computer games in the past. The rounded-angular enquiry desk at the southeast corner now becomes a coffee shop. The other two corners were not changed physically, but carry different functions than they used to do.
