the diagram shows the percentage of food and goods bought in supermarket in European countries in 1998 and 2008
The two charts compare various Western countries’ supermarket constitutions in terms of foodstuff and other groceries in 2 different years, 1998 and 2008. On the whole, it can be seen that people in all countries, especially in
Country
1, became more willing to buy food and goods in supermarkets in the survey period.
To begin
with, in 1998, up to 24% of the food bought in
Country
2 was from supermarkets,
whereas
the figure for
Country
1 was only 10%.
However
, only after a decade,
this
number experienced a tremendous growth of 25% to 35%, overtaking
Country
2 as the largest percentage. As to
Country
3, the statistics in both years remain relatively stable at around 7%. A similar pattern can be observed in the second chart where, in
Country
3 in 1998 and 2008, merely below 10% of goods were purchased in supermarkets.
Likewise
, the proportion of supermarket goods in
Country
2
also
stayed comparatively unchanged, but at a much higher level of approximately 30%.
Last
but not least, the year 2008 witnessed a fundamental surge in that of
Country
1 to 40%, quadrupling the original value in 1998.
