It’s been
such
a long time since we last
spoke. How have you been? I hope all is well with you. I’m writing to thank you for the travel guidebook you gave me during our last
meeting.
I wanted to tell you about my holiday—it was an incredible experience! The trip lasted only three days, but it was packed with amazing activities. On the first day, I visited Vancouver Island, which had a lot to offer for tourists, including sea diving and parasailing. On the second day, I had the unique opportunity to visit the country’s Parliament House. I was surprised to learn that it was open to the public, as I initially
thought it was only accessible to members of parliament.
Thanks to the guidebook you gave me, navigating these places was very easy, and the information provided, along with
the maps, made my trip much more enjoyable. I was able to explore everything without any difficulties just by following the guide’s recommendations. I even got to enjoy some free shopping after winning discount coupons in
various events!
Now that my holiday is over, I’d like to return the guidebook to you. I’m planning to visit next week and would love to hand it back to you in person when I stop by your place.
Looking forward to catching up soon.
Yours sincerely,

task achievement
Your letter is very well-written and addresses all parts of the task effectively. However, you could provide a bit more detailed descriptions of the activities you enjoyed or specific places you visited on Vancouver Island to make the letter more vivid.
coherence cohesion
You might want to break down the section about the benefits of the guidebook into separate paragraphs for even better clarity and readability. Each unique point (instructions, coupons, directions) deserves its own paragraph to make it stand out.
greeting and closing
The greeting and closing are both warm and appropriate, setting a friendly tone throughout the letter.
single idea per paragraph
Each paragraph deals with a single idea, making the letter easy to read and understand.
The Greeting
Depending on the style and aim of the letter, you will need to adapt your greeting.
Always start an informal letter in the ways:
- Dear + name
- Hi / Hello + name
‘Dear...’ is more appropriate, so stick with this.
For a formal letter there are two options for the greeting:
- Use Dear Sir or Madam if you don’t know the name of the person you are writing to.
- Use Dear + surname if you do know their name, e.g. Dear Mr Smith or Dear Mrs Jones.
