The diagram below shows how a biofuel called ethanol is produced. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant. Write at least 150 words.
The diagram illustrates the full cycle of the biofuel called
ethanol
from production to consumption.
The manufacture of ethanol
consists of five steps, involving both natural and artificial processes. This
biofuel can be deployed to multiple vehicles, and the ultimate waste is always carbon dioxide which will be emitted into the atmosphere.
The production of ethanol
begins with harvesting matured plants and trees which absorb the sunlight and ambient carbon dioxide to support their growth. After harvesting, the raw materials will go through the first level of processing which yields cellulose. The first intermediate product cellulose is then
transformed into the second intermediate product, namely the sugars, after a series of chemical processes. The final step is to add microbes into sugars and utilize their natural ability to produce ethanol
from sugars.
The ethanol
can be used as fuel for cars, trucks and even aeroplanes. The burning of ethanol
will only produce carbon dioxide which immediately enters the next cycle of the production of ethanol
itself.Submitted by micilan on
