coherence and cohesion
While most of your letter is structured well, consider enhancing the clarity by ensuring that each paragraph develops a single main idea more explicitly.
task achievement
You have a clear description of your stay and the wristwatch. However, you could improve by providing a little more detail about how the watch looks or any sentimental value it holds.
task achievement
Your writing tone is warm and friendly, which is well-suited for a personal letter.
coherence and cohesion
The letter has a clear greeting and closing, making it feel complete and personal.

The Greeting

Depending on the style and aim of the letter, you will need to adapt your greeting.

Always start an informal letter in the ways:

  • Dear + name
  • Hi / Hello + name

‘Dear...’ is more appropriate, so stick with this.

For a formal letter there are two options for the greeting:

  • Use Dear Sir or Madam if you don’t know the name of the person you are writing to.
  • Use Dear + surname if you do know their name, e.g. Dear Mr Smith or Dear Mrs Jones.
