Last month you had a holiday overseas where you stayed with some friends. They have just sent you some photos of your holiday. Write a letter to your friends. In your letter • thank them for the photos and for the holiday • explain why you didn't write earlier • invite them to come and stay with you You do NOT need to write any addresses. Begin your letter as follows:

Dear, I was very happy when I received your letter. Thank you so much for the beautiful photos and the wonderful holiday we spent together. The pictures remind me of many happy and funny moments. I really enjoyed staying with both of you. I’m sorry for not writing earlier. When I got back home, I was very busy cleaning the house and preparing for my exams. I hope that you can visit me one day. You can stay at my home and we can hang out together. I’ll show you around my city, visit some beautiful places, and try delicious local food. I’m sure we will have a great time together. I am looking forward to hearing from you soon. Sincerely,

tip
All parts of the task are done. You thanked them, explained why you did not write sooner, and invited them to stay. A small extra detail could add more life.
tip
Put the apology and the invite in separate small blocks. Use a new line for each main idea to help flow.

Use a variety of complex and simple sentences

You should use complex sentences in your writing, but it does not mean that you should try to make all of our sentences complex.

‘Complex’ sentences are not actually very complex; they are just two or more simple sentences put together. Putting them together makes the essay more coherent and cohesive.

Examples:

I really want to study but I’m too tired.

I wore a warm coat because the weather was cold.

If action is not taken soon on climate change, global warming will get worse.
