task response
Write about both views. You explain the use of buildings, but you do not yet explain why a building can also be art.
task response
Add your own full view at the end. Say if use is more important, or if use and art should have the same place, and explain why.
task response
Finish the essay with a short end paragraph. At the moment, the answer stops after only one main point.
task response
Make the example more real and simple. For example, say that an office needs enough room, safe stairs, lifts, and car parks. Then add an art example, such as a city hall or museum that makes people feel proud of their city.
coherence and cohesion
Use a clear plan: start, first view, second view, your view, and end. This will help the reader follow your answer.
coherence and cohesion
Use linking words in a natural way: “On the one hand”, “On the other hand”, “For example”, “However”, and “In the end”.
coherence and cohesion
Keep each paragraph on one main idea. The first main paragraph can be about use; the next can be about art.
coherence and cohesion
Check word order and key words so the meaning is clear. For example, write “Most people think that buildings should focus on their purpose” and “In my opinion, the art of a building is also important.”
task response
You give a clear view that both use and art matter in a building.
task response
The Tesla office example is clear and linked to the idea of a building made for use.
coherence and cohesion
You use a main paragraph start, “On one hand,” and your ideas in that paragraph stay on one point.
coherence and cohesion
The example follows the main idea, so the reader can see why it is there.
Include an introduction and conclusion

A conclusion is essential for IELTS writing task 2. It is more important than most people realise. You will be penalised for missing a conclusion in your IELTS essay.

The easiest paragraph to write in an essay is the conclusion paragraph. This is because the paragraph mostly contains information that has already been presented in the essay – it is just the repetition of some information written in the introduction paragraph and supporting paragraphs.

The conclusion paragraph only has 3 sentences:

  • Summary
  • Restatement of thesis
  • Prediction or recommendation

Example:

To summarize, a robotic teacher does not have the necessary disciple to properly give instructions to students and actually works to retard the ability of a student to comprehend new lessons. Therefore, it is clear that the idea of running a classroom completely by a machine cannot be supported. After thorough analysis on this subject, it is predicted that the adverse effects of the debate over technology-driven teaching will always be greater than the positive effects, and because of this, classroom teachers will never be substituted for technology.

Start your conclusion with a linking phrase. Here are some examples:

  • In conclusion
  • To conclude
  • To summarize
  • Finally
  • In a nutshell
  • In general
