task response
Make your answer much longer. Explain at least two reasons why countries should import some food. For example, some countries cannot grow enough fruit, rice, or other food because of the weather or land.
task response
Add clear examples. You could say that a cold country may import bananas, while a hot country may import wheat or milk. This makes your ideas easier to understand.
task response
Talk about both sides before you give your final view. You can say that making enough local food is good in hard times, but imports are still needed for food choice and for food that cannot grow locally.
coherence and cohesion
Use separate paragraphs. Write one short opening paragraph, one paragraph for your first reason, one for your second reason, and a final paragraph to repeat your opinion.
coherence and cohesion
Use simple linking words to join ideas: 'First', 'Also', 'For example', 'However', and 'In conclusion'.
coherence and cohesion
Make each sentence complete and clear. For example, write: 'Each country has its own special foods.' Then explain how trade lets people enjoy more kinds of food.
task response
You give a clear opinion: you disagree. You also give one main reason: food from other countries gives people more choice.
coherence and cohesion
Your ideas follow a simple order: first you talk about world trade, then you state your view.
Include an introduction and conclusion

A conclusion is essential for IELTS writing task 2. It is more important than most people realise. You will be penalised for missing a conclusion in your IELTS essay.

The easiest paragraph to write in an essay is the conclusion paragraph. This is because the paragraph mostly contains information that has already been presented in the essay – it is just the repetition of some information written in the introduction paragraph and supporting paragraphs.

The conclusion paragraph only has 3 sentences:

  • Summary
  • Restatement of thesis
  • Prediction or recommendation

Example:

To summarize, a robotic teacher does not have the necessary disciple to properly give instructions to students and actually works to retard the ability of a student to comprehend new lessons. Therefore, it is clear that the idea of running a classroom completely by a machine cannot be supported. After thorough analysis on this subject, it is predicted that the adverse effects of the debate over technology-driven teaching will always be greater than the positive effects, and because of this, classroom teachers will never be substituted for technology.

Start your conclusion with a linking phrase. Here are some examples:

  • In conclusion
  • To conclude
  • To summarize
  • Finally
  • In a nutshell
  • In general
