Answer all parts of the question. Explain more than one cause of high university costs, such as teacher pay, new buildings, books, and more people going to university. Give ideas for the government, universities, and students.
Develop each idea. For example, say how the government can give money to schools or help students with low-cost loans. Explain how universities can cut costs, and how students can plan their money or work part-time.
Use clear, real examples to show your ideas. For example, a student may choose a local university to save money on rent and travel.
Use a clear four-part plan: introduction, causes, ways to solve the problem, and conclusion. This will make your answer easier to follow.
Put one main idea in each paragraph. Start with a clear first sentence, then add reasons and an example.
Use simple linking words to show your meaning: “First”, “Also”, “For example”, “However”, and “In the end”. Avoid putting many ideas in one long sentence.
Check key words and grammar. Write “students and their families pay more fees”, not “students or family cost more fees”. Write “than in the past”, not “than old days”.
You give one clear cause: a university degree can help people get better jobs and a higher place in society.
You offer one useful solution: universities can work with banks so students can get loans with lower interest.
Your ideas are linked to the topic, and the second sentence moves from the cause to a possible solution.
Include an introduction and conclusion
A conclusion is essential for IELTS writing task 2. It is more important than most people realise. You will be penalised for missing a conclusion in your IELTS essay.
The easiest paragraph to write in an essay is the conclusion paragraph. This is because the paragraph mostly contains information that has already been presented in the essay – it is just the repetition of some information written in the introduction paragraph and supporting paragraphs.
The conclusion paragraph only has 3 sentences:
- Summary
- Restatement of thesis
- Prediction or recommendation
Example:
To summarize, a robotic teacher does not have the necessary disciple to properly give instructions to students and actually works to retard the ability of a student to comprehend new lessons. Therefore, it is clear that the idea of running a classroom completely by a machine cannot be supported. After thorough analysis on this subject, it is predicted that the adverse effects of the debate over technology-driven teaching will always be greater than the positive effects, and because of this, classroom teachers will never be substituted for technology.
Start your conclusion with a linking phrase. Here are some examples:
- In conclusion
- To conclude
- To summarize
- Finally
- In a nutshell
- In general
