A person’s worth nowadays seems to be judged according to social status and material possessions. Old-fashioned values, such as honour, kindness and trust, no longer seem important. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?
These days, self worth is often determined by one's financial and social status. Meaningful qualities like honour, kindness and trust are not included when decicing whether or not someone is worthy. In my opinion, noble character and personality are the foundations of which my judgments of people are built. It is no secret that the amount of money people earn, as well as, their level on the social strata makes them more desirable in society. However, such superficial qualities can easily disappear in a matter of months. Taking money for example, celebrities loose their money in pathetic ways, like splurging in shopping or loosing in casinos. One day they are rich the next they are not, thus their money is not a constant part of who they are. Moreover, with regards to social status, many people are infact infamous. For instance, Donald Trump, who is one of the most famous men in the world , known for his riches and being president of the USA is also one of the most hated people on earth because of his vulgar and disrespectful character. Undoubtedly monetary goods and fame do not make a man. Alternatively, honour, kindness and trust are core aspects of one's personality and influence how we treat people. This is because it is a universal rule that if you are respectful, polite and trustworthy people are more likely to interact with you. If you only had your word and are known to be noble, that would be more than enough for people to want to share secrets with you or even start business' with you. Personally, in my lifetime i've met multiple types of personalities ranging from the most decent of people who have no financial advantage to horrendous peronalities who only had their bank statement to offer and i always gravitate to those who are kind and trustworthy. In essence, a person's purity and good intentions pave the way for the ease of their lives. In conclusion, while socializing with someone with a high financial and social status may reap financial benefits, it is short lasting and unrewading spiritually. True gratification arises from being around those with good hearts who want the best for people.
