Write about the following topic. When talking about success, we often think of people who are rich or famous. In your opinion, what are the qualities that characterise a successful person? Why do you think these should be the criteria? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience. You should spend about 40 minutes on this task

Popular and rich people have often been considered as successful ones. The question is: are these the right criteria to identify success, or do we need to change them and to better establish what success means? I personally believe that
such
criteria should not be used to judge people because there are other more relevant qualities to be considered to
this
aim. Some people think that emotional intelligence would be more adequate as a criterion to identify successful people. Perhaps, if a rich and well know person working in any field did not have
this
particular quality, people around him or her would never fully appreciate that

simply because most people need more than money or popularity to be satisfied with their job. In fact, since many people spend almost two

, no stipend will never fill the gap created by the lack of empathy. In my personal experience, I have worked for six months with a brilliant researcher at Harvard University focusing on Alzheimer's disease, but I could not say that I enjoyed my time with him.
Although
he published many articles

scientific high-impact journals and was very well known in his research field, the lack of social skills was an obstacle to work with him.
However
, it might be argued that money and popularity are two parameters which are accepted by many and very easy to quantify. In my opinion,
this
does not necessarily follow that we should prefer countable qualities simply because they are easier to use, but a more complex analysis of people's features ought to be encouraged. To conclude,
although
money and popularity could appear as two convenient elements for the definition of success to be based on, I think that they should be stopped to be used as the main criteria.
In contrast
, emotional intelligence, empathy, social and relational skills would be much more adequate features to consider someone as a successful person.
