In nearly all science courses at university, there are significantly more male students than female students. What is the reason for this? What could be done to balance out the numbers?

Personally, I have noticed that yes;
science
courses at universities have more male students than female students.
However
, I believe through my observations that
this
statement is significantly applicable to engineering courses, specifically. I personally believe; that engineering courses have been dominated by male students compared to female since ages. One of the major reasons for it; I believe is historical suppression of women as well as undermining their technical knowledge in
such
courses. Historically; it has been a belief across different cultures that scientific; particularly engineered
science
Suggestion
scientific
discoveries is a task of a man.
This
thought has long led women to take courses away from
science
. Even in today's age, women are thought to be good for courses other than
science
.
However
, things have been changing a lot over the past few years. There was a recent news; that a female professor from the University of Waterloo won a noble prize for her research in physics. I think
such
incentances
need to be highlighted more; so that it motivates more girls to take up
science
courses and lead other girls by example. Parents; should start treating their girls
equal
Suggestion
equally
to boys and support their girls if they want to take
science
as their career. Universities; should motivate more and more girls to apply for
such
courses, and provide scholarships for them. I think; societal changes are most needed to see more girls entering universities for higher education in
science
.
