Dear Members of the Selection Committee;
As far as I can remember, I have always been intrigued by how the flow of money, goods and services make the world go around. Dropping my coins in my penny bank and impatiently waiting to hear the clunk sound. To
fuel my interest, my father bought me a Monopoly game which had me surrounded by concepts like money, bank, mortgage, property and income for the
time. Growing up, the strategies I learned from the game have broadened my perspective about the importance of economics in our lives and awakened my passion to criticize, evaluate and analyse the economic issues around me, leading me to pursue a
in Economics at university.
At university, I attended courses relating to Econometrics in which I learned how to model, analyse and interpret several economic variables by using statistical software like

software helped me in improving my analytical skills and enriched my skill of stochastic thinking. I feel that
statistical tools and the proficiency required to utilize them are an integral part of the modern economist’s skill set.
My unending inquisitiveness to learn has led me to study International Trade and Monetary Management at Marmara University and write a master thesis on “Macroeconomic Effects of Foreign Direct Investments on Fragile Five Countries”. Alongside my intensive studies, I have successfully managed my time and created space to collaborate with my thesis supervisor Assistant Professor Erdem Turgan and write an article on the same topic. Currently, our article is being reviewed by Anadolu University Journal of Social Sciences.
In my opinion, my overindulging fondness to learn is the main reason why I would like to do another
in Economics despite the knowledge I gained during my graduate studies about International Trade. In the future, I intend to do a study on “The Relationship Between the Credibility of Monetary Policies and Macroeconomic Performance of Turkey”. The credibility of monetary policies in Turkey is seen to be a controversial topic by many experts and the public.
