In some countries young people are encouraged to work or travel for a year between finishing high school and starting university studies. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages for young people who decided to do this.

Whether to take a
year
off between finishing
school
and starting
university
is a difficult choice for many students. Some believe that spending the
year
travelling or working gives them additional
life
experience that can help them make better decisions. Other believe that it can be a distraction and that they might not return to study.
This
essay will examine both sides of
this
difficult question. It is arguable that those who take a gap
year
before starting their
university
studies benefit from gaining
further
life
experience. Working or travelling exposes you to many real world situations that are very different to the environment you encounter in

. In fact, some would say that

For example
, if you travel overseas you will meet people from different social and cultural backgrounds and
this
can broaden your understanding of the world. Alternatively, if you work you will have a better understanding of the kind of career you might like to pursue. So those who choose to work or travel for a
year
will often be in a better position to choose the right course for them at
university
.
On the other hand
, some argue that taking the
year
off can interrupt your studies.
This
can create the risk you will not return to attend

for example

the distinct possibility that you might find yourself selecting another path in

Include an introduction and conclusion

A conclusion is essential for IELTS writing task 2. It is more important than most people realise. You will be penalised for missing a conclusion in your IELTS essay.

The easiest paragraph to write in an essay is the conclusion paragraph. This is because the paragraph mostly contains information that has already been presented in the essay – it is just the repetition of some information written in the introduction paragraph and supporting paragraphs.

The conclusion paragraph only has 3 sentences:

  • Summary
  • Restatement of thesis
  • Prediction or recommendation

Example:

To summarize, a robotic teacher does not have the necessary disciple to properly give instructions to students and actually works to retard the ability of a student to comprehend new lessons. Therefore, it is clear that the idea of running a classroom completely by a machine cannot be supported. After thorough analysis on this subject, it is predicted that the adverse effects of the debate over technology-driven teaching will always be greater than the positive effects, and because of this, classroom teachers will never be substituted for technology.

Start your conclusion with a linking phrase. Here are some examples:

  • In conclusion
  • To conclude
  • To summarize
  • Finally
  • In a nutshell
  • In general
