Advertising is all around us, it is an unavoidable part of everyone’s life. Some people say that advertising is a positive part of our lives while others say it is negative. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Advertising in modern society is ubiquitous - on the radio, TV, the internet and in our

. Some view it as a positive phenomenon while others see it as essentially negative. In my opinion, the negative influences of advertising outweigh the positive. It is true that advertising provides us with information about new products. If it were not for electronic and print advertising, many products would not be bought. In
this
way, advertising helps to educate potential consumers.
Additionally
, the industry itself is very large, creating jobs for countless thousands of people around the world.
However
, for many people advertising is an ‘unwanted intruder’ that comes into their homes. Television commercials are a great example of
this
; programs are interrupted by annoying commercial breaks which ‘force’ us to listen. Print-based advertising is
also
a ‘home intruder’. Week after week

in my city fill up with leaflets and brochures advertising products for which consumers have little or no use. Advertising can
also
encourage greed. People can become greedy for a new product, becoming discontent with what they already have. Telemarketing is another common form of advertising. Advertising people make telephone calls to unsuspecting homes (usually around dinner time!)

This
kind of advertising is probably the most intrusive example and it can cause people to become quite angry. In conclusion, while advertising has some merits, it is essentially a negative and disruptive influence. It would be ideal to see advertising greatly reduced or even removed altogether from our
