The increase in the number of privately - owned cars is having a negative impact on both our towns and the environment. What can individuals and government do to reduce this problem?

Nowadays, cars have become a basic need in our daily lives and their numbers have increased especially in urban cities.
This
enormous increase in the number of four wheelers has caused some problems.
This
essay will address the problems associated with it along with the solutions for the same. The
first
and the foremost problem associated with
this
increase is traffic congestion in metro cities. Today, four wheelers have become cheaper and almost every family can afford to purchase a car which in turn causes a huge amount of traffic. Tata Nano manufactured by Tata Motors in the year 2005 has enabled many individuals to own their car. The
second
problem associated with on road cars is air pollution which causes health hazards at a high rate.
As a result
of
this
, air in metro cities has degraded so badly that it became difficult to breath in these urban cities. A survey conducted by the Government of India reported that 75% of the population suffer from asthma due to poor breath quality. Solution to the aforesaid complication should be to improve the quality of public transportation so that the public will prefer to opt for buses or metro services
instead
of using their own vehicles.
Secondly
, there should be a ban on vehicles causing pollution above the threshold value. The government should impose heavy fines on individuals breaking these norms. To recapitulate,
