You work at home and have a problem with a piece of equipment that you use for your job. Write a letter to the shop or company which supplied the equipment. In your letter, describe the problem with the equipment explain how this problem is affecting your work say what you want the shop or company to do

I am writing
this
letter to report the malfunctioning of a
laptop
which I purchased
last
week from your shop.
Initially
, when I bought
this
laptop
, it was correctly working. After an hour screen of the
laptop
started showing some issues. I switched off and started again, still offering the same problem, which is affecting my daily work very poorly. Due to
this
persistent problem, it has become difficult for me to work continuously. I have a deadline for my project, and if I could not complete it within a given period, it will affect my job as my boss already gave me a warning. The only solution for
this
problem is to replace my
laptop
with a new one, and I
also
have a request to check twice before selling the products. Waiting for a prompt reply Yours faithfully, Sheemaanoob

The Greeting

Depending on the style and aim of the letter, you will need to adapt your greeting.

Always start an informal letter in the ways:

  • Dear + name
  • Hi / Hello + name

‘Dear...’ is more appropriate, so stick with this.

For a formal letter there are two options for the greeting:

  • Use Dear Sir or Madam if you don’t know the name of the person you are writing to.
  • Use Dear + surname if you do know their name, e.g. Dear Mr Smith or Dear Mrs Jones.
