In many countries, the proportion of older people is steadily increasing. Does this trend positive or negative effects on the society?

Today, there is a higher proportion of the older population among the entire population in the world. Some believe that
this
will exert a favourable influence on
society
, while others disagree. Its pessimistic effects outweigh its positive ones. No one can deny that older folk might be helpful in several aspects.
First
of all, senior people who choose to extend their working lives could be valuable to the whole
society
, many of them stay in the workforce. They are experts in their field of work.
Secondly
, they can save their children's time by doing chores or keeping an eye on their grandchildren.
However
, even if senile persons can be of some use, the benefits they bring cannot compare with the burdens they exert on the following three parties. They will result in financial strains on their family members. Without any income, they have to resort to the young for living.
Also
, concerning the unfavourable effects on
society
, several aged people will lead to a shortage of workforces.
Furthermore
, they will
also
go a long way towards creating high tension for the country.
On the other hand
, the social problem related to ageing the medical costs will increase dramatically and hurt the economy. The elderly are prone to health problems
such
as heart disease, arthritis, and cancer,so in a country, a large proportion of people over 65 have to increase the expenditure on medical services to treat the ageing-related condition.
This
lead to budget cut for education, infrastructure projects, which can affect on
society
adversely not only in the quality of life but
also
in long-term economic growth. In a word,
although
senior citizens might contribute with their experience and free time, the demerits they bring far overwhelm their merits.
