The line graph illustrates changes in the number of
cars
owned by household in Britain between 1971 and 2007. It is apparent that the overall trend of
car
ownership has increased in Britain over the period shown. Particularly, the numbers of houses with two
cars
soared dramatically; meanwhile, the figures with a
car
fell. In 1971, half of the Britishers had not a regular
car
. Around 44 % of the population had one
car
, but only about 7% of households possessed two
cars
. It was uncommon for families to have three
cars
, numbers were around 2% of households falling into
this
category. The one-
car
household was the most common type from the late 1970s onwards,
although
there was a little fluctuation throughout the period. In 2007, the biggest change was in no
car
ownership, that was dwindled down steadily over the 36-years period, from just over 47% to 25%.
However
, the tendency of possessing 2
cars
increased steadily, started from 7 % and reached 27%, and the proportion of households with 3
cars
also
rose approximately 3% ( from 2% to 5%).
