Today many children spend a lot of time playing computer games and little time on sports. Why is this? Is it a positive or negative development?

Sports are very important for growing
children
as it not only keeps them fit physically but
also
mentally
however
children
are found spending a lot of
time
on
computer
games
these days. A lot of factors
such
as ease of availability , not having to bond and communicate with other
kids
are responsible for
this
surge. I believe it is totally a negative development . Analysing the violent
nature
of
computer
games
and their impact on the
kids
and the impact of
such
games
on their social
life
will help advocate
this
.
Firstly
, most
computer
games
are violent in
nature
.
Children
who indulge in
such
games
tend to lose empathy for others early in
life
.
For instance
,
games
like Mortal Kombat , Call of duty are full of bloodshed and
also
instils a sense of achievement in you by killing more people.
This
violent
nature
goes a long way with most of the
kids
. Studies prove that
such
kids
tend to be more aggressive and more violent in real
life
. While
on the other hand
,
kids
who follow some sports empathize with others more.
Hence
the violent
nature
of
computer
games
definitely has a negative effect on
children
.
Secondly
,
computer
games
often affect the social
life
of
children
.
Kids
isolate themselves , spending hours of screen
time
playing
games
which
further
makes them dull.
For instance
,
kids
who spend more screen
time
on computers become dull over
time
and avoid any social events .Over
time
, they become depressed and don't know how to indulge themselves in social events.
Kids
who have a passion for a particular sport understand the importance of team spirit and are socially well mannered .
Therefore
,
computer
games
have a detrimental effect on the social
life
of a kid. In the nutshell ,
kids
spending a lot of
time
on
computer
games
and little
time
on sports is a negative development. The anti-social effects and the violent
nature
of these
games
bolster
this
opinion. In my opinion screen
time
on
such
computer
games
should be regulated by parents and
children
should be motivated to follow a sport of their choice.
