In the past, shopping was a routine domestic task. Many people nowadays regard it as a hobby. To what extent do you think this is a positive trend?

Shopping is an important task that helps acquire goods needed to have an acceptable lifestyle. While in the past it was a necessary chore, currently it has become a favourite pastime of many people around the world.
This
essay will discuss why
this
is a beneficial development.
Firstly
, families in the past shopped only for essentials that had to do with their food needs.
This
is because there were very few events that they needed to attend resulting in fewer needs to acquire luxury items like new outfits, new accessories or even make-up items.
For example
, events like weddings which required these kinds of purchases to be made happened once every few years. Even the celebration of festivals was a private affair and there was no need for any new acquisitions

unless it involved going to a public place like a temple or a church.
Hence
, people only stepped out to stores out of necessity to replenish their pantries at the beginning of the month.
On the other hand
, in the current era, folks need no special occasion to shop. Nowadays, shopping is not restricted to groceries but
also
luxury items because the main motive is ‘pleasure’. Need is not the only cause anymore, but the actual reason is self-satisfaction - they feel happy when they shop for what they like.
For example
, people shop for branded products even if the same item could be found in the market at an economical cost, just to satisfy their esteem needs. Since most of the population these days are engaged in jobs that require working outdoors, they need new stuff to meet their everyday needs. Shopping is now considered a pastime activity
instead
of a task because of the change of mindset over the years. The essay concluded that shopping sprees of individuals over the years has changed from being a mandatory household errand to a leisure activity. In my opinion,
this
is a positive trend seeing that most folks are following their own desires and boosting the economy with their many purchases.
