The ownership of electrical appliances has changed dramatically from 1920 to 2019. Washing machines changed the least, from 40 percent in 1920 to about 75 percent in 2019, which is about 35 percent over almost 100 years. Vacuum cleaners rose from 30 percent in 1920 to 100 percent in 2000, and stayed the same since then. The percentage of refrigerators with electrical appliances increased most drastically, from 0 percent in 1920 to 100 percent in just 60 years. Although washing machines with electrical appliances are only at 75 percent in 2019, both refrigerators and vacuum cleaners are at 100 percent. That explains why the number of hours of housework per week per household decreased by almost 40 percent, from 50 percent in 1920 to just 10 percent in 2019. With the help of technology, people don't have to spend too much time doing household chores like washing clothes, preparing meals, or cleaning anymore.
