Nowadays people prefer to shop in large supermarkets rather than nearby local shops. Why do you think this is happening? Is this a positive or a negative trend?

Buying purchases from big stores rather than small nearby small
shops
become common in recent days. The main reason for that tendency is lower prices and the wide variety of product’s line at
supermarkets
.
This
essay will discuss both benefits and drawbacks sides of that phenomenon.
Supermarkets
have an opportunity to buy a huge amount of goods at once and store them in appropriate places because the square meters occupied by them are large. Meanwhile, small local
shops
could buy only several items of goods, because they do not have enough place for storing.
Thus
, the high buying power of superstores provides them lower entrance prices on supply, which contribute to lower final prices for customers.
Moreover
,
this
ability alongside allows big stores to sell almost all needed products in one place. So that, these two mentioned advantages made them a very convenient place for doing shopping.
This
statement is proved by examples, which are mentioned in some recent research, according to it, nearly 80% of purchases, which are bought by an average family, have been done in
supermarkets
.
However
, despite saving purchasers’ time and money, in some cases,
this
shopping method could be inconvenient.
For instance
, if elderly or disabled persons had not an opportunity to drive, because of their mental or health conditions, the long way to the superstore could become a very significant problem for them. In these situations, nearby local
shops
could be one of the most appropriate solutions, because they are within walking distance. But counting the above-mentioned, small businesses could not compete with big stores, which obliged them to be closed. Due to
this
, one of the significant negative consequences of
this
tendency could be discomforts in the shopping process for some groups of individuals. Taking account of the above, the absence of nearby local
shops
could cause some issues for a certain group of individuals. And, considering that all individuals must have equal opportunities, in my opinion, nearby local
shops
must be saved, even though notwithstanding
supermarkets
have some obvious benefits, which are pictured above.

Include an introduction and conclusion

A conclusion is essential for IELTS writing task 2. It is more important than most people realise. You will be penalised for missing a conclusion in your IELTS essay.

The easiest paragraph to write in an essay is the conclusion paragraph. This is because the paragraph mostly contains information that has already been presented in the essay – it is just the repetition of some information written in the introduction paragraph and supporting paragraphs.

The conclusion paragraph only has 3 sentences:

  • Summary
  • Restatement of thesis
  • Prediction or recommendation

Example:

To summarize, a robotic teacher does not have the necessary disciple to properly give instructions to students and actually works to retard the ability of a student to comprehend new lessons. Therefore, it is clear that the idea of running a classroom completely by a machine cannot be supported. After thorough analysis on this subject, it is predicted that the adverse effects of the debate over technology-driven teaching will always be greater than the positive effects, and because of this, classroom teachers will never be substituted for technology.

Start your conclusion with a linking phrase. Here are some examples:

  • In conclusion
  • To conclude
  • To summarize
  • Finally
  • In a nutshell
  • In general
