As global trade increases, many goods including those we use on a daily basis are produced in other countries and have to be transported long distance. Do the benefits of this trend outweigh the drawbacks?
Due to the increase in globalization, it has become a trend to import the
products
of daily usage from other countries
even though these products
have to travel longer distances
. Although
it has some advantages I believe this
move of transporting the products
from remote distances
have more disadvantages such
as heavy transportation cost and obsolete of local products
.
On the one hand, the products
that are being transported from long distances
have some advantages. The main benefit is that people can buy the branded products
locally, without travelling to the host countries
. In this
way, they can rely on those products
because many people have used those goods
internationally before arriving at international markets. For instance
, iPhone is the product of the USA but millions of consumers use that because of the reliability of the product. Another factor is that international trade can increase the revenue for host countries
. They can export the products
to those countries
that are not able to produce such
products
and generate excessive income.
On the other hand
, transportation of goods
to longer distances
have several disadvantages. Firstly
, the heavy incurred costs, resulting in costly products
for other nations. For example
, a t-shirt that costs PKR 1000 in Pakistan can cost up to 200 USD in the USA due to handling charges. Secondly
, consumers can turn to foreign products
which means obsolete local products
. As a result
, many local businesses have to shut their stores because of this
trend which can increase the poverty in that country. Furthermore
, transportation of the perishable products
to remote areas has to be done after freezing the subject goods
. This
could have negative effects on the health of the users.
To conclude, although
internationally transported goods
have some benefits I believe drawbacks outweighs the benefits. The overall impact on cost, local products
and health cannot be ignored and it could even put more pressure on governments who rely heavily on global trade.Submitted by azhar.javaid6 on
