You have seen an advertisement in an Australian magazine for someone to live with a family for six months and look after their six year old child. Write a letter to the parents. In your letter • Explain why you would like the job • Give details of why would be a suitable person to employ • Say how you would spend your free time while you are in Australia

Dear Sir or Madam, I am writing
this
letter to apply for the position that you have posted in an advertisement in the Australian magazine
last
week. From
this
posting, I understand that you are looking for a live-in nanny for a certain period to look after your six-year-old child. I am interested in
this
role since I am passionate about taking care of and teaching children. In lieu of
this
, I have been taking classes as a pre-school teacher. I understand
also
that
this
will be located in a different country of my origin, despite
this
, I see
this
as an opportunity to learn more about the Australian culture since I have never been there before. Aside from the fact that
this
position will benefit me truly as I mentioned above, I believe that I am well suitable for
this
role due to a variety of reasons. One of them is that I am at the top of my class which enables me to teach your child very well.
Furthermore
, I
also
have experience as a nanny for my nephews and nieces for over 6 years now. Since I will be living with your family for 6 months and I will be away from home, I plan to do several recreational activities during my free time.
Firstly
, I will be going to famous sightseeing spots since it is my
first
time in Australia.
Moreover
, I would like to see iconic animals
such
as the koalas and kangaroos since I have never seen them in person. Thank you for
this
opportunity to share my interest in
this
role. I am really looking forward to your favourable response and hearing from you. Yours faithfully,

The Greeting

Depending on the style and aim of the letter, you will need to adapt your greeting.

Always start an informal letter in the ways:

  • Dear + name
  • Hi / Hello + name

‘Dear...’ is more appropriate, so stick with this.

For a formal letter there are two options for the greeting:

  • Use Dear Sir or Madam if you don’t know the name of the person you are writing to.
  • Use Dear + surname if you do know their name, e.g. Dear Mr Smith or Dear Mrs Jones.
