Government investment in the arts, such as music and theatre, is a waste of money. Governments must invest this money in public services instead. Do you agree or disagree?

There are various opinions on sectors where government should invest public funds. People argue that the art
sector
should receive more funds rather than public service. I agree that the
music
and theatre
sector
is deserving of more investment. Expatiating the cultural teaching power of theatre as well as the tourism
values
of
music
will prove that. To start with, theatre is a means of reiterating cultural
values
to members of society.
This
could be used as a subtle way to introduce the younger generation to some important cultural practices
such
as honesty, diligence, and perseverance amongst others. It can
also
serve as a channel for re-enforcement learning of good
values
and morals for the adult category of society.
For instance
in Nigeria, the authority is prioritizing jingles and films centred on some near-extinct
values
such
as honesty.
Furthermore
,
Music
encourages tourism which
besides
making more money for the state, it is a way of promoting the language and culture of a particular country.
Music
is in no doubt enjoyed by the majority of the public either as a way of relaxation or motivation. Indigenous songs showcase the culture and language of a group of people to the entire world. When concerts are staged, fans from various parts of the globe gather to dance and know each other.
This
not only brings tourists to the host country
,

but
also
brings a financial boom too. Phyno, a Nigerian musician who raps in an indigenous language recently stages a musical concert that brought individuals who might not know where Africa is on the map to Nigeria. Conclusively, the art
sector
offers more benefits than the public
sector
. I agree that more funds should be allotted for more development as the authority will not only make more money through tourism, it will
also
teach culture and morals to the members of the society.

Support ideas with relevant, specific examples

Examples make your writing easier to understand by illustrating points more effectively.

Examples, if used properly, not only help you get higher marks for ‘Task Response’ but also for ‘Coherence’.

When giving examples it is best to put them after your main idea or topic sentence. They can be used in the middle of supporting sentences or they can be used to start a new sentence. There is no rule for where exactly to give examples in essays, logically they would come after your main idea/topic sentence or just after a supporting sentence.

Linking words for giving examples:

  • for example
  • for instance
  • to illustrate this
  • to give a clear example
  • such as
  • namely
  • to illustrate
  • take, for example
