The line chart compares the percentage of families with three electrical devices and the hours they spent doing house chores per week in a country from 1920 to 2019. It is clear that refrigerators were the most popular instrument among people most of the time. Overall, while the ownership of the appliances increased significantly, the amount of time spent on housework decreased. In 1920, 40% of families had a washing machine. The figure increased gradually over the period shown and reached just above 70% in 2019. At the beginning of the period, vacuum cleaners were bought by 30% of households and the percentage of refrigerators was negligible.

, the common tendency to buy refrigerators rose dramatically over the

60 years and peaked at 100% in 1980. It remained stable till the end of the period. The popularity of vacuum cleaners went up steadily and overtook washing machines’ figure at 70% in 1960. It continued the rising trend and from 2000 onwards 100% of families used vacuum cleaners. In 1920, citizens spent 50% of their weekly time washing clothes, preparing meals, and cleaning. It declined day by day and registered about 10% in 2019.
