Some people believe that reading stories from a book is better than watching TV or playing computer games for children. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
People have different views regarding the importance of literary works. Some believe the
knowledge
gained from television or computerized games
have more value. I agree with the former view because I think books
increase the vocabulary and imagination of children
.
There are two main benefits of reading. Firstly
, it sparks the creative minds of children
because it forces the readers to use their imagination to visualize a world. For instance
, students who read books
such
as harry potter or Percy Jackson in childhood have a more creative and problem-solving mind as compared to children
who do not read at all. Furthermore
, this
also
helps primary school students to have a positive outlook on life, which will be beneficial to them in adulthood. Secondly
, reading habit helps teenagers academically because it improves their grammar, pronunciation and vocabulary. This
also
increases their knowledge
as books
are based on facts and help them in college applications and university essays.
Television and computer games
provide visual knowledge
which is more striking as compared to words and leaves a lasting memory but, they can get addicting. The games
and cartoons take up most of the time of the students and make them ignore their homework or daily chores. Additionally
, they do not impart much knowledge
to their viewers. Some games
have explicit or violent aspects which may not be suitable for underage children
. Screens also
have a negative effect on the
eyesight as they have blue rays which affect the eyes. Correct article usage
apply
For example
, children
with longer screen time are more susceptible to wearing glasses in adulthood.
In conclusion, I would like to say that both reading material and visual material provide knowledge
to their users but books
not only sharpen the mind of their readers, they also
have long-term benefits such
as eye health and a good attitude.Submitted by a.rashidsid93 on
