A family member is coming to stay with you. He/she will be arriving by train in the morning, but you won’t be home until the evening. Write a letter to your relative. In your letter: – explain the arrangements you have made for them to get keys and enter the house – tell your relative how to get from the train station to your house – say when you will be home and suggest what you could do together that evening

Dear Sam, I hope you are doing well. I am very excited to meet you after a long time, but I have sad news that It will be impossible for me to pick up you from the station.

Word Count

IELTS says that you should write a minimum of 150 words in writing task 1. If you go under word count you will lose marks in task response.

A very long letter will not give you a higher band score.

Aim for between 160 to 190 words in writing task 1. This will ensure a concise letter and will be realistic in terms of time management. You have only 20 minutes to write the letter and you need around 5 minutes of planning time, so you will not be able to write a long letter in 15 minutes.
