The diagram illustrates the life cycle of
salmon
fish.Looking from an overall
perspective,it is readily apparent that the fish have
four major stages in its life(Change the verb form
has
eggs
,fry,smolt and adult salmon
).These stages occur in different environmental conditions where they have the optimal background for growing into the next stage.Besides
the life span of salmon
fish is around ten years.
Initially
,adult salmon
from the sea migrate into rivers and lay their eggs
in the upper river where water currents move slowly, making eggs
not to be disturbed by flowing water.Eggs
are laid in the vicinity of small stones and reeds and it takes 5-6 months to hatch the eggs
.
Afterwards,3-8 cm long fry is released from the hatched eggs
and they swim into deep rivers and stay in the speedy water waves for approximately four years before being transformed into the smolt stage where they grow into a larger size measuring 12-15 cm.
Subsequently
,smolts swim into the sea and become adults of 70-76 cm in length and reside there for 5 years.Submitted by g.s.subasinghe on
