films and computer games which contain violance are popular. Some people believe that they have a negative effect on soceity and so should be banned. Do you agree or disagree?
In recent years, a debate regarding the effects of violent
entertainment
media
has emerged. In particular
, some people
argue that these media
can have detrimental consequences on communities and should be forbidden. In my opinion, it is not true and there is no proven correlation between crimes and these means of entertainment
. In this
essay, a brief explanation of the matter will be given.
As stated above, some people
believe that violent media
could have negative effects. First and foremost, games
and movies can influence people
, especially the younger ones. Given this
, youngsters could be inspired to replicate what they see on TV or the actions of characters with which they play, and if these actions are violent ones, they will start reproducing criminal actions. For instance
, there have been some cases of violent felonies committed by someone who enjoyed playing these kinds of video games
and some aspects of the crimes committed, reflected what they did while
playing. For
this
reason, there is a growing amount of population that advocates for a ban on violence from entertainment
.
On the other hand
, there is no evidence that crime in society is spiking due to
games
and movies. In fact, the reason for the stated correlation with crimes is probably because these media
are now so spread among the population that someone who enjoys them is already a criminal or would have committed a crime anyway. In addition
, playing these games
could be beneficial, because many people
can release their frustration through them, such
as is done with combat sports. For instance
, some research suggests that consuming violent entertainment
products decreases the probability of committing a crime.
In conclusion, I strongly disagree with the possible prohibition of violence in entertainment
. As noted previously, the possible negative effects, that are cited by the ones in favour of a ban, are either spurious correlations or exaggerations by the people
who argue in favour of prohibition. Meanwhile, the benefits are backed by scientific evidence and regarding possible influences of media
on children, if a child is more influenced by what he sees through a computer than what parents tell him, the issue is an educational one.Submitted by formaggio124 on
