The table shows the Proportions of Pupils Attending Four Secondary School Types Between 2000 and 2009.
The table illustrates the percentages of students studying at four different secondary
schools
from 2000 to 2009. It is evident that
whereas
the community
schools
experienced a significant increase in the proportion of school children attending their institutions over the period, the others encountered a corresponding decline. In detail, the percentage of pupils in voluntary-controlled
schools
decreased noticeably from slightly over half to well over one-third in 2005 and eventually one-fifth in 2009.
Similarly
,
although
nearly one-quarter of the pupils attended grammar
schools
in 2000, the proportion dropped by half in nine years. Meanwhile, only a few

of students went to specialist
schools
also
fell by 2

during the same period.
However
,
while
other types of
schools
declined the proportion of attending students, community
schools
were in the opposite trend. Even though just over one-fifth of children studied in these
schools
in 2000, the figure went up remarkably to over half of all pupils during the following nine years.
