You are living in a University residence, and you have a problem with the high levels of noise from a new campus restaurant which is open late at night. Write a letter to the governor of the University. In your letter, Complain about the situation Say why this is a problem And propose ways to reduce the noise

Dear Sir or Madam, My name is John Chan and I am living in Ms Juliana's residential
hall
. I am writing to express my concern about the
noise
problem from the new campus
restaurant
, Food
Hall
. I understand that the school allows the
restaurant
to open till midnight as it allows our fellow schoolmates to grab some food if they study at night.
However
, I think it is unacceptable that loud music is played in the
restaurant
throughout the whole night. As the distance between Food
Hall
and our residential
hall
is only 30m, we can clearly hear the
noise
produce from the site and it affects both my hallmates and my study and sleeping quality. We have been affected by the sound and had difficulty focusing on our work
while
we were studying since the opening of the new
restaurant
. We tried to solve the problem by closing the windows of our room but it did not work.
Moreover
, we could only get into bed after midnight.

afraid that if
this
situation remains unchanged, it will affect our academic performance in the final exam which will be held next month. As a solution, I suggest that the school should communicate with the
restaurant
owner and recommend that he could only play music during the daytime but not after 7pm.
Also
, the volume of the music should be adjusted to a certain level and
noise
barrier cotton should be installed on the wall of the
restaurant
in order to reduce the
noise
delivered to other places. I hope the situation could improve immediately and I look forward to your reply. Thank you. Yours faithfully, John Chan

Word Count

IELTS says that you should write a minimum of 150 words in writing task 1. If you go under word count you will lose marks in task response.

A very long letter will not give you a higher band score.

Aim for between 160 to 190 words in writing task 1. This will ensure a concise letter and will be realistic in terms of time management. You have only 20 minutes to write the letter and you need around 5 minutes of planning time, so you will not be able to write a long letter in 15 minutes.
