You want to hold a surprise party for a friend who is visiting his home town after a long time from a foreign country. Write a letter to a common friend asking for his help in organizing the party and in your letter: Write the reasons for organizing the party Describe when, where and how you would be organizing the party Ask your friend to meet you in person for further discussions

Dear Ozy, I hope you are doing great and that
this
letter meets you well. I have a plan of organizing a surprise party for a friend of mine who has been away in a foreign country for almost a decade and has decided to visit home
this
forthcoming yuletide season. He spoke to me excitedly on the phone about how he would love to see the live performance of the Idemmili male dance group. I was surprised as I listened to him describe every detail of the group's dance festival and how he longs to watch them again. It was after the discussion that I decided to make that dance performance part of the surprise party he will be welcomed with when he returns. Here is my idea: formal arrangements will be made to invite the group to be stationed at the entrance of the airport
such
that he would have the privilege of watching them live right from the airport to his country home just the way they perform around the streets of the community during their annual festivals.
Additionally
, I want to invite caterers who are specialists in our traditional delicacies to be on the ground to cook and serve all his favourite native dishes that he has always talked about. Generally, I intend to make it appear more like a mini cultural festival in his honour and I am sure the idea will make him glad. Dearest Ozy, I think a written conversation will not be adequate for us to make a thorough plan towards
this
, I
therefore
, plead that you pay me a visit as soon as you can so we deliberate more on smarter ways to achieve
this
. Thank you very much and I hope to hear from you soon. Warm regards, Onyi

Word Count

IELTS says that you should write a minimum of 150 words in writing task 1. If you go under word count you will lose marks in task response.

A very long letter will not give you a higher band score.

Aim for between 160 to 190 words in writing task 1. This will ensure a concise letter and will be realistic in terms of time management. You have only 20 minutes to write the letter and you need around 5 minutes of planning time, so you will not be able to write a long letter in 15 minutes.
