The table provides information about the rate of land degradation by three main causes namely ; deforestation ,
over-cultivation
and overgrazing in three different regions (North America , Europe and Oceania).
In general, the data in the table indicate that the highest rate of degraded land was in Europe , while
, North America had the smallest area of degradation.
To start with , it is clear from the data that Europe had the largest area of degraded lands with a total of 23% , and the main reasons for this
trend were erosion , over-cultivation
and overgrazing by rates of effect 9.8% , 7.7% and 5.5% respectively. However
, Oceania recorded 13% of degraded lands , and the major reason was over-grazing at 11.3% followed by deforestation at 1.7% , and without presenting any effect of the over-cultivation
factor at 0%. Nevertheless
, North America recorded the lowest rate of degradation at 5% in total , nonetheless
, over-cultivation
was the main cause at 3.3% , also
over-grazing at 1.5% was the second cause , and erosion at the end
at 0.2% .Submitted by vet.lezan on
