The graph displays the percentage of senior citizens aged 65 and above from 1940 to 2040 in the USA, Sweden and Japan. It can be clearly derived from the data that the proportion of old people in the 1940s was less than one-tenth of the whole population.
However
, it is expected to be more than one-fourth by 2040. Japan appears to be the only country that stayed under 5% until the year 2000. The numbers soared significantly in 2020. It is predicted that Japan will have more than one-fourth of its population elderly by 2040, which is the highest among all three nations.
On the other hand
, the USA and Sweden had around 7% and 9% of old people in the 1940s, respectively. Moving almost steadily and
similarly
throughout the years till 2000, Sweden experienced a sharp increase in the head counts to around one-fifth,
while
the USA remained under 15% in 2020.
Although
, both countries are expected to have at least one-fourth of their population as seniors, in 2040.
