The chart illustrates how householders in a certain country used their weekly wages in two years, 1968 and 2018.
Overall
, people spent the majority of their income on food in 1968 but in 2018,
this
figure dropped dramatically
while
the use of money for relaxing was prioritized. More money was spent on housing and transport in 2018 but that on fuel and power, clothing and footwear and personal goods decreased significantly compared with the year 1968. In 1968, 35% of people's wages were dedicated to food though only 10% was sacrificed for house rent and buying necessities like clothing and footwear. Around 7% to 9% of families' weekly income was needed for household and personal items
as well as
for travelling and different leisure activities. Meanwhile, in 2018, more people were aware of the importance of relaxing so the expenditure on
this
rose considerably from approximately 8% to around 23%. Less money was used to buy food, only about 17% was recorded in 2018. With the development of the economy, the housing and transportation costs
also
witnessed an increase, less than 20% of the total householders' wages was required to pay for the former and the latter made up around 14%. The percentage of the weekly income spent on clothing and footwear and other personal goods fell by 5% each, household goods expenditure remained the same.
