The graph below shows the proportion of the population aged 65 and over between 1940 and 2040 in three different countries.
The line graph compares and predicts the percentage of the elderly who are 65 years old and older in a century from 1940 to 2040 in three different countries (Japan, Sweden and the US). In general,
although
the
proportion
of aged people in Japan was the lowest among the three countries at the beginning of the given period, it increased substantially through the years and is expected to be the highest in the future. As for Sweden and the US, the
proportion
of aged people shows a gradual growth over the years. Despite having the least-aged people domestically in 1940, the figure of Japan will peak at around 27% in 2040 as the anticipation shows. Having said that, the figure between 1940 and 1960 showed a substantial decrease, after which it stayed constant for two decades, from 1980 the
proportion
went up gradually and levelled off with the initial
number
of 5% in the millennium.
Following
this
, the
number
will be climbed to 10% in 2030 and
then
it is expected to rise steeply to 25% and will eventually peak at approximately 27% in 2040. Regarding the
number
of the US, it recorded as the highest in 1940 as roughly 9% elderly in the
overall
population. After that, the percentage rose gradually until 1980, despite remaining stable for four decades, the
number
is expected to grow continuously and increase to a top of around 23% in the final year given. As for the
proportion
of Sweden, it started at about 7% in 1940,
then
had a similar upward trend until 1980, despite having several fluctuations the figure holds the growth and presumed to be rise and record just above 25% in the final year given.
