You recently saw an advertisement in a newspaper seeking volunteers to do unpaid work with local children. You are interested in this work. Write a letter to the head of the organization. In your letter – express your interest – ask for details of the work that needs to be done – let them know when you are available.

Dear Mr John, I am writing to express my interest in the
volunteer
position you recently advertised. As someone who is passionate about giving back to the community, I am excited about the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of children. I understand that the position requires certain qualifications and skills, and I would appreciate more information about the job requirements and the hours expected of a
volunteer
.
This
will help me prepare myself better and ensure that I deliver the best quality of service possible. I am available to
volunteer
every day except Sundays between 6:00 pm to 12:00 am.
However
, I must mention that I visit my grandmother once every three weeks, and on that particular day, I will not be available to
volunteer
. Working with children brings me great joy and fulfillment. Their pure hearts and boundless energy are a constant source of inspiration, and I am eager to contribute to their development in any way I can. As a
volunteer
, I am committed to being punctual, reliable, and responsible. I understand the importance of maintaining a safe and positive environment for children, and I will do everything in my power to ensure their well-being. Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to hearing from you soon. Yours Sincerely, Mohammed Albayati

Structure your letter

A letter needs to be written using a proper format, including the following:

  • A greeting (Dear sir/madam, Dear John, Dear Mr. Smith)
  • The main body (consisting of paragraphs for each part of the letter)
  • A closing (Yours sincerely, Yours faithfully, Best wishes, Kind regards, Love)

When writing a letter as part of the IELTS General Training Writing Task 1, it is important to include the bullet points presented to you in the question.

All three bullet points need to be presented. And remember that some bullet points contain more than one element. So, make sure to watch for ‘and’ and plurals.
