You have seen an advertisement in an Australian magazine for someone to live with a family for six months and look after their six-year-old child. Write a letter to the parents. In your letter: – explain why you would like the job – give details of why you would be a suitable person to employ – say how you would spend your free time while you are in Australia

Dear Sir/Madam, I hope
this
letter finds you in great spirits. My name is Huyen Nguyen, and I am writing to express my utmost interest in the opportunity to live with your wonderful family and look after your delightful six-year-old child that you advertised in Sydney Magazine
last
week. The reason I am drawn to
this
job is rooted in my passion for childcare and cultural exchange. The chance to immerse myself in the warmth of an Australian family,
while
caring for your little one, is an experience that excites me beyond measure. As someone who values the nurturing of young minds, I believe I can provide a loving and supportive environment that fosters both growth and joy. As a responsible and dependable individual, I have garnered significant experience in babysitting and child education. Throughout my volunteer work at local schools and daycare centres, I honed my ability to engage children through creative play and educational activities. My dedication to safety and well-being ensures that your child's welfare will always be my top priority. During my stay in Australia, I intend to make the most of my free time by embracing the rich Australian culture. I plan to explore the vibrant landscapes, attend local events, and participate in community initiatives.
Additionally
, I am eager to try out surfing and learn about Aboriginal traditions to gain a deeper appreciation for the country's heritage. Thank you for considering me as a potential member of your family for the next six months. I am more than willing to provide references and participate in interviews to showcase my suitability for
this
role. I look forward to the possibility of embarking on
this
life-changing journey with your family. Yours sincerely, Diya

The Greeting

Depending on the style and aim of the letter, you will need to adapt your greeting.

Always start an informal letter in the ways:

  • Dear + name
  • Hi / Hello + name

‘Dear...’ is more appropriate, so stick with this.

For a formal letter there are two options for the greeting:

  • Use Dear Sir or Madam if you don’t know the name of the person you are writing to.
  • Use Dear + surname if you do know their name, e.g. Dear Mr Smith or Dear Mrs Jones.
