The chart provides information about the number of Asian elephants in 1997 and 2004 in nine countries.
Overall
, India had the highest population of elephants for those two years. In 1997, there were approximately 10,000 elephants in India, the largest population followed by Myanmar had slightly more than 5000.
In addition
, the third largest number was displayed in Thailand, about 4000.
Moreover
, the size of the population was similar between Malaysia and Sri Lanka with about 3000. The others had 1000 and below and yet China obtained the lowest number.
On the other hand
, most countries experienced a decline in 2004 compared to 1997 except Cambodia, Laos and China. The amount dropped significantly in India and Thailand but there was only a minimal decrease in Myanmar. Despite that, it remained constant for Laos
while
there was a small increase in Cambodia.
